In this Article i will explain you how to disable automatic updates on windows 10 and its advantages and disadvantages. Microsoft has made it mandatory for Windows 10 users to update their computer. The company has set the new program to automatically receive new updates by default. Windows 10 Pro users have an option to delay the updates they receive, but if you are on Windows 10 Home, there isn't much you can do about it. Updates get downloaded and installed automatically. There is no normal setting to turn off automatic updates on windows 10 as in windows 7,8,8.1 but no need to worry, it’s not so difficult to do it, in this article I will show you how to disable automatic updates on windows 10.

Microsoft has explained that it will provide updates in two distinct methods for its two distinct types of clients.

1) Home Users: Home users cannot defer windows automatic updates, which consumes a lot of our data and decreases our internet performance in some cases. The background download of the windows 10 update may slow down your browsing or may reduce your download speed.

2) Enterprise Users: Even these users cannot defer updates permanently but can delay it to hold on it to the time when they are free. Microsoft said it will push updates to such users less frequently, so that they are faced with a minimum down time. These are the corporates and real-time users such as hospitals and ATMs etc.

Coming back to Home users and Professional users, there is not even the option to delay the updates. They will be downloaded as soon as they are available. Availability of Windows Updates for normal users means that the updates have already been tested by Windows Insiders. If you are a Windows Insider, running Windows 10 Home or Pro, you will be in first priority to receive updates. After few days of you testing the updates and if it doesn’t pose any problems, it will be released to the normal ring of users.

But Microsoft did not care about it, updates keep downloading and cannot be stopped, which consumes our HDD space and internet balance. Follow This Tutorial to know how to disable automatic updates in windows 10

1) Open Control Panel (you can search for it in start)

2) Go to “System and Security”

3) Go to “Administrative Tools”

4) Go to “Services”

5) Scroll down until you find “Windows Update”, Double click to open it

6) In “General” Tab, you can find start up type: Manual

7) Change “Startup type” to “Disabled”

8) Click Apply and then ok

9) Open “Settings” in Start and click “Update and Security”

10) Here you can see that last checked 1/19/2016. I disabled automatic updates on that day and no update received till 2/6/2016. That means system will not check for updates from the time you disable it.

There is a problem with this method, even some store apps don’t update by performing this method, if you ever want to update your system or update your apps change the startup type from disabled to Manual.

Disadvantages of Automatic Updates In Windows 10:

1) Limited Data Plan users face a lot of problem

2) Updates occupy a lot of space on system

3) Slows down work and internet speed

Advantages of Automatic Updates in Windows 10:

1) New kind of virus and Malware can be nullified

2) We will be the first person to receive new structure of windows

I don’t recommend disabling automatic Updates of Windows 10, because a lot of viruses are coded and they are being spread into internet and microsoft finds them and creates a fix for those virus and malware, then send out a update for us, so in order to protect our system sometimes updates are essential. If you on an unlimited data plan, prefer automatic updates. It automatically downloads and installs in the background and doesn’t affect your work.
